Flying over the Andes from Chile to Argentina, the landscape changes every time you blink. As you descend into Mendoza, snowcapped mountains give way to high desert plains, marked by monsoonal storms and extreme weather patterns. Argentina is a vast country, the 8th largest in the world by square mileage, with a population as diverse as its natural ecosystems. It's a truly international community, and the Argentine people are warm, welcoming, and exceptional at hospitality.
The weather, however, isn’t always as friendly. In any given part of the growing season, floods, zonda winds, polar frost, heat waves, or heavy hail can disrupt an entire vintage in a matter of days—or even hours. And if that’s not enough, large ant populations can strip vineyards down to bare sticks, cutting away leaf material to use the sap as nutrients. All things considered, Argentina’s steady supply speaks volumes about the determination and resilience of its people.
Thankfully, these challenges haven’t stopped Argentine farmers from recognizing the potential of their land—where soil and stars align to create the perfect growing conditions. Exposed to an average of 300 sunny days per year with only 8-12 inches of annual rainfall, beautifully textured topsoil sits upon a bed of well-draining rocks beneath the Malbec and Bonarda grapevines. The result is a terroir that balances scarcity and strength, producing wines with intense color, flavor, and tannic structure.
