The 2024 red grape harvest season has officially begun, and at NexTerra, we are excited to see the fruits of our labor—literally! This year marks a significant milestone for our Ninety-Nine Oaks vineyard, nestled in the Clements Hills AVA of California. Now in its “third leaf” (third year of production), this vineyard continues to establish itself with each passing season, producing exceptional fruit that reflects the unique terroir of the region.
Ninety-Nine Oaks is planted to red grape varietals including Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Merlot was the first to be harvested, picked at night during cool temperatures to ensure the grapes retain their freshness and optimal flavor. While visiting the area scouting for grape maturity, our sourcing team had the opportunity to ride along during a separate night pick of Chardonnay, experiencing firsthand the precision of machine harvesting. Using an Oxbow machine, the grapes are gently shaken from their vines and collected by a tractor running alongside—an efficient process that preserves the quality of the fruit.
